Ghfeds would like to invite parents for an informational meeting about transitioning into adulthood presented by Gavin Steiger from UHCL Dept. of Disability Services on Thursday August 13th from 6-8pm at Behavior TLC in Clear Lake.

The presentation will examine options individuals with Down syndrome have after high school in both higher education and employment. The presenter will address the differences between the laws that apply to high school and life after it. Tips and ideas will be shared with the audience to help their student transition into the next phase of their life. The presenter will conclude by inviting members of the audience to ask questions.

Bio: Gavin Steiger has been the Director of the Disability Services office at the University of Houston-Clear Lake since 2013. His responsibilities include meeting with students with disabilities, determining appropriate accommodations for these students, supervising professional staff, and overseeing the department’s budget. Previous to UHCL, he was the Coordinator for Disability Services for Students at Trinity University for 6 years, and the Assistant Director for Compliance and Disability Services at Purdue University for 3 years. He has experience providing accommodations to both college students and employees with disabilities. He earned his master’s degree in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia.

Childcare will be provided from 6pm to 8pm by BTLC therapists. We will be serving pizza, drinks (water, Capri-Sun's), and fruit trays for all. Mr. Steiger will start his presentation at 630pm.
